They rule out cases of both covid and Influenza in the region
Gómez Palacio, Durango – Health officials have confirmed no current cases of COVID-19 or influenza in the region, a testament to ongoing epidemiological surveillance. This comes as 260 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are currently available and being administered to avoid waste.
Vaccine Supply and Timely Administration
Ensuring residents have access to vital protection against respiratory illnesses is a key priority for local health authorities.
Pedro Antonio Facio Torres, head of Sanitary Jurisdiction 2 Laguna Durango, emphasized the challenges of maintaining vaccine efficacy. “We must have the vaccine deep-frozen; the moment we take it out of the freezer, its lifespan is reduced, so we try to ensure that it is not wasted,” he explained. The current goal is to administer all 260 doses this week.
Weekly shipments of 1,000 doses are expected to continue, ensuring a consistent supply for the Laguna de Durango region. Coordination efforts are focused on seamless transitions between shipments to avoid any interruption in the immunization strategy.
Winter Immunization Efforts
Since the start of the winter season in October 2025, Health Jurisdiction 2 has administered 4,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, bolstering protection against respiratory diseases within the population.
Officials are confident that the supply of vaccines from both Pfizer and Moderna will continue, strengthening vaccination coverage throughout Gómez Palacio and surrounding municipalities.
What happens when the COVID-19 vaccine is thawed? Once removed from deep-freezing, the vaccine’s usable lifespan is significantly reduced, requiring swift and efficient administration to prevent wastage.
The ongoing surveillance reflects a commitment to public health and proactive measures to safeguard the community from respiratory illnesses.
