The Government of Nayib Bukele continues to implement a targeted subsidy to ensure that citizens can access propane gas at affordable prices. According to information provided by the General Directorate of Energy, Hydrocarbons and Mines (DGEHM), this subsidy will allow Salvadorans to pay $3.09 for a 25-pound gas drum, the most used size nationwide.

This subsidy benefits more than one million families, providing significant relief amid the economic pressures caused by the pandemic and other hardships. The maximum sale price of the 25-pound cylinder will remain at $11.13, thanks to government support.

Additionally, subsidized prices have been established for other cylinder sizes, such as $7.46 for the 35-pound, $0.94 for the 20-pound, and $0.00 for the 10-pound. These measures help ensure equitable access to propane gas across the country, especially for low-income families and small businesses.

The extension of the Transitional Law for the Stabilization of LPG Prices will also play a crucial role in price stability, since these measures will be in force until May 31, 2024. This initiative reflects the Government’s commitment to protect the economy of Salvadoran families and provide support to micro and small businesses during this challenging period.

In addition to keeping prices stable, the Government is carrying out inspections at propane gas sales points and LPG bottling plants to prevent abuses by distributors and ensure safety and transparency in the sales process. These actions demonstrate the Government’s commitment to guaranteeing that subsidies reach those who need them most and that the quality and safety standards demanded by consumers are met.

The Government of President Nayib Bukele thus reaffirms its commitment to protecting the economic well-being of its citizens and taking proactive measures to mitigate the effects of global inflation and other economic pressures.
