Tamil Nadu Government Approves Appointment of 812 TCC Employees in Transport Corporations

Chennai: The Government of Tamil Nadu has granted permission to hire 812 TCC (Driver cum Conductor) employees across five Transport Corporations in the state. The transport corporations include Kumbakonam, Salem, Coimbatore, Madurai, and Tirunelveli.

According to an order issued by the Secretary of the Transport Department, K. Panindra Reddy, the Head of the Transport Department has reported a total of 1,422 conductor vacancies in the transport corporations of Kumbakonam (291), Salem (423), Coimbatore (60), Madurai (272), and Tirunelveli (376).

In a meeting chaired by the Finance Secretary, along with the Transport Department Secretary and Senior Finance Officer of the Transport Department, it was decided that 60 percent of the operator vacancies in Kumbakonam, Salem, and Coimbatore Transport Corporations, and 50 percent of the operator vacancies in Madurai and Tirunelveli Transport Corporations could be filled.

Currently, there are numerous vacancies in the driver and operator category, and this shortage has affected the smooth operation of buses, with services unable to run even if someone takes leave. To tackle this issue, the Transport Corporations have proposed appointing DCC personnel who can perform the dual role of a driver and conductor, similar to the system in place at Rapid Transport Corporation. The appointment of TCC employees has also been suggested as a solution to deal with the high number of vacancies in Transport Corporations. In a meeting of secretaries chaired by the Chief Secretary last year, it was decided that TCC employees could be appointed in other transport corporations as well.

To execute the appointment process, the concerned Managing Directors have been granted permission to fill up the 812 DCC vacancies in Kumbakonam (174), Salem (254), Coimbatore (60), Madurai (136), and Tirunelveli (188), excluding Rapid Transport Corporation, Chennai Metropolitan Transport Corporation, and Villupuram Transport Corporation.

In line with the decision, the Managing Directors of the Transport Corporation are required to advertise the vacancies in newspapers and accept online applications through the Tamil Nadu E-Governance Agency. Additionally, the list of eligible candidates should also be obtained through the employment office, and the services of a road transport company can be utilized for the selection process.

The required qualifications for these posts include a minimum 10th standard education and proficiency in reading and writing in Tamil. Other qualifications include holding a heavy vehicle driving license (with 18 months of experience) and an operator’s license, among others. The basic monthly pay for these positions is set between Rs. 17,700 and Rs. 56,200.

It should be noted that in a previous order issued last February, permission was granted to fill up 122 driver positions in Kumbakonam Transport Corporation and 685 TCC positions in Rapid Transport Corporation.
