Minister of Agriculture Dr. Md. Abdus Shaheed said that the government is taking a strict stance against hoarders and syndicates. They will not be exempted in any way. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the Ministry of Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries and Livestock to work together to control commodity prices. We are determined to fulfill that responsibility.

On Monday (March 11), the delegation led by World Food Program Resident Representative and Country Director Domenico Scalpelli, French Ambassador to Dhaka Marie Masdupoui and Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Shestakov held separate meetings with the Minister of Agriculture at the Secretariat. He said this during an exchange of views with journalists after the meeting.

Abdus Shahid said that there is no shortage of supply of goods during fasting. So there is no chance of price increase.

In response to the question whether the prices are increasing due to syndicates, the agriculture minister said, “Tell those who are doing syndicates and make news against them.” Our officers will reach there within 24 hours if we get news of syndicate anywhere. We will take strict action against the syndicate.

The minister said that the behavior of the buyer is also the reason for the sudden increase in the price of the product. Now I need 2 liters of oil, if I go to the market and buy 10 liters at a time, the price may increase suddenly. This behavior also needs to change.
