Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder said that price reduction is not the main objective of the anti-hoarding operation. The government wants to develop proper management of paddy and rice.

He said this in response to questions from media workers after the anti-illegal hoarding campaign in Sadar and Parbatipur upazilas of Dinajpur on Friday (February 9).

The Food Minister said, ‘Anti-hoarding operation is going on all over the country. Whether we come or not, the campaign does not stop. We had a meeting with the stakeholders here yesterday. In the meeting they promised that the price of rice will not increase but will decrease.

He said, ‘Many people store rice in the field in the hope of more profit. We see in the newspaper that the tree has grown in sacks. I saw such a picture here (at Ispahani Auto Rice Mill) today.’

The food minister also said, ‘We have visited 4/5 mills today. I am investigating whether someone has illegal stock, whether someone is doing any irregularity. We feel that there are some irregularities and illegal stock at Ispahani Auto Rice Mill. The executive magistrate of the district administration is here and they have been instructed to take action as per law.’

During the campaign, National Assembly Whip Iqbalur Rahim, Secretary of the Ministry of Food. Ismail Hossain, Director General of Food Directorate. Sakhawat Hossain and Deputy Commissioner Shakeel Ahmed were present.
