Jurong Lake Gardens became the site of a heartwarming rescue on February 8, when security officers swiftly came to the aid of a 75-year-old woman experiencing a health scare. It’s a reminder that quiet acts of kindness often happen behind the scenes in our public spaces.

A Timely Response for a First-Time Visitor

A family is expressing gratitude for the quick thinking and compassion of security personnel who assisted their grandmother during a visit to Jurong Lake Gardens.

  • A 75-year-old woman with pre-existing health conditions became unwell during a walk in Jurong Lake Gardens.
  • Security officers from Excellent Security & Safety responded within 5-10 minutes.
  • The officers provided reassurance and transported the woman to a safer location via security buggy.
  • The family expressed deep gratitude for the officers’ calm demeanor and compassionate care.

Ashiqah, 28, recounted to reporters that the visit to Jurong Lake Gardens was particularly special, marking her grandmother’s first time experiencing the park despite a lifetime of living in the Jurong area. Around 9 p.m., the grandmother, who has diabetes and blood pressure issues, began to struggle, exhibiting heavy panting and weakness, causing significant worry for her family.

Q: What happened when the grandmother began feeling unwell?
A: The family quickly sought help, locating a security contact number on a sign near the Japanese Garden entrance and immediately placing a call.

The control room promptly dispatched two officers, identified as Mr. Bala and Mr. Akbar, from Excellent Security & Safety. “They arrived very quickly, within about five to 10 minutes,” Ashiqah said, adding that their calm presence immediately eased the family’s anxiety during a stressful situation.

The officers carefully assessed the grandmother’s condition, offering reassurance and then carefully transported the family by security buggy from the Japanese Garden area to the South Carpark, ensuring the woman remained comfortable throughout the journey. No emergency medical treatment was required after they returned home, and the grandmother stabilized after resting and rehydrating, though the family remains cautious given her existing health conditions.

Ashiqah emphasized the officers’ genuine care, stating, “What touched us most was their calmness, patience and genuine care. They treated my grandmother with great respect and kindness, which gave us a lot of reassurance during a very stressful situation.”

Ashiqah shared the experience hoping to recognize the officers and other frontline workers whose quiet acts of compassion often go unnoticed. “Jurong Lake Gardens is known for its beautiful landscape, but it is the people behind the scenes who truly make public spaces safe and meaningful,” she said. “There were no cameras or crowds — just two individuals doing their duty with heart.”

Excellent Security & Safety responded to inquiries, stating they were “truly touched” to hear about the incident. “More than anything, we are very grateful and relieved to know that the visitor and her grandmother were able to get home safely,” a company spokesperson said. The company expressed pride in having dedicated individuals on their team, noting that while officers are trained for such situations, extending genuine kindness is a particularly commendable quality.
