$10 Million Grant to Bolster Community Resilience in Grass Valley, California

California’s commitment to proactive disaster preparedness received a significant boost with a $10 million grant awarded to Nevada County. The funding, allocated through the Community Resilience Centers Program (CRC), will transform the Grass Valley Veterans Memorial Building into a vital hub for emergency response and year-round community support.

The California Strategic Growth Council’s (SGC) CRC program focuses on establishing neighborhood-level centers equipped to provide shelter, essential resources, and crucial services during climate-related and other emergencies. Beyond immediate disaster relief, these centers are designed to foster stronger community bonds and enhance overall resilience in the face of future challenges.

Enhancing Grass Valley’s Emergency Infrastructure

The project, slated to begin on April 25, 2025, will encompass both substantial capital improvements to the existing Veterans Memorial Building and the implementation of comprehensive programming. These enhancements are specifically aimed at increasing the community’s capacity to respond to extreme weather events and other emergencies. According to project documents, the upgrades will also expand access to vital community programs focused on health, emergency preparedness, and financial well-being for all residents.

“This investment represents a critical step in strengthening our community’s ability to withstand and recover from adversity,” a senior official stated.

Project Timeline and Budget Details

The grant term is structured around a four-year project completion phase, followed by a performance evaluation period of up to one year. The total funding available is capped at $10,000,000, providing a substantial financial foundation for the ambitious undertaking.

Collaborative Partnerships Drive Community Impact

Nevada County is not undertaking this initiative alone. A robust network of partner organizations will be instrumental in delivering the grant-funded programming to the community. These key collaborators include:

  • FREED Center for Independent Living, working in collaboration with the Aging and Disability Resource Connection of Nevada County.
  • Gold Country Senior Services
  • Interfaith Food Ministry

This collaborative approach ensures a diverse range of expertise and resources are brought to bear, maximizing the program’s reach and effectiveness.

Stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the ongoing dialogue surrounding the project. A Collaborative Stakeholder Structure Meeting is scheduled to provide updates and gather input from the community.

This investment in Grass Valley underscores California’s dedication to building more resilient communities prepared to face the challenges of a changing world.
