He Thyssen-Bornemisza presents the first retrospective of the German artist André Butzer out of your country. The exhibition, inaugurated a few weeks ago, is made up of a selection of 22 works made between 1999 and 2022 and coincides with the 50th anniversary of the artist, who throughout his career has stood out for his peculiar and unique imagery and his combination of elements of pop and abstraction.

Among the works on display are two works recently incorporated into the Blanca and Borja Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection: ‘Aladdin and the wonderful lamp’ (2010) and ‘Untitled’ (2022). Take the witness of one of the great exhibitions of the Museum in this 2023, ‘Lucian Freud. New perspectives’, which ends on June 18 after showing the public fifty works that review the seven decades of production of one of the most significant European artists of the 20th century.

Meanwhile, the Gran Vía 15 Museum lands on Gran Vía, a new space that breaks with the traditional concept of a museum, where artistic installations linked to contemporary art will be combined with a ‘showroom’ where curated objects can be purchased, all of them nationally produced .

The starting gun has been given ‘Walking Life’, a large installation by Okuda San Miguel in which the renowned Cantabrian artist proposes to the viewer to become part of his work through a tour of 6 zones.

June is the last month in which you can enjoy ‘The Wise Look’ by Francesc Catalá-Roca in the Museum of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. This exhibition, framed in the context of the first centenary of his birth, is made up of recognized works by the photographer that are part of private collections, as well as those of the Academy itself.

Finally, on the 28th a new national museum opens its doors: Gallery of the Royal Collections. Located next to the Royal Palace and the Almudena Cathedral, it will house a selection of National Heritage jewels and, in addition, a third of the pieces that will be displayed will be in constant rotation. For the inaugural exhibition, more than 650 pieces will be shown, including paintings, decorative arts, historical photographs and tapestries, including masterpieces such as Velázquez’s ‘White Horse’, or Caravaggio’s ‘Salome with the Baptist’s Head’.
