Greece and Canada announced their intention to strengthen their cooperation in emergency situations, starting with Athens’ purchase of seven Canadian water bombers.

A joint statement by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis said: “We attended the signing by Greece and the Canadian Commercial Corporation of a contract to purchase from Greece seven state-of-the-art DHC-515 fire-fighting aircraft.”

The statement added, “These aircraft will contribute to combating the devastating forest fires that are increasingly sweeping southern Europe.”

Mitsotakis, who began a two-day visit to Canada, indicated a few days ago in a statement to the Canadian newspaper The Global and Mail that an order estimated at 360 million euros would be submitted to the de Havilland company to strengthen Greece’s fleet of water bombers.
