Green MPs reveal the threats they face

For “that fear changes sides”, the environmental group in the Assembly publishes on Instagram the worst of the hateful, racist, and sexist threats regularly received by its deputies. “You will never be a French dirty whore, you deserve a bullet in the head”, receives the deputy of Hauts-de-Seine, Sabrina Sebaihi, born in the Paris region of Algerian parents. “Your uterus? I burst it “, is forced to read Marie-Charlotte Garin, elected in the Rhône.

Since February 8, environmentalists in the Assembly have been revealing these threats and insults on the Instagram account “Balance ton intimidation”, in the form of simple and powerful visuals, but also via screenshots in “stories” which do not feel free to display the accounts that send these messages.

“It’s also a way to free yourself from that”

Marion Nadaud, collaborator of the group at the origin of the initiative, assumes with AFP a “tool of denunciation”: “Social networks do not protect women from violent messages. As long as justice is not adapted, exceeded by the speed of the networks, we cannot wait for something to happen. »

“It’s a very small action, but it’s to show them that we’re not going to let it go,” continues the one who now begins her days by selecting the worst of the messages transferred by the deputies of the group to expose them. “Every morning, starting with this violence, it’s not great for me,” she confesses.

“It was heavy to bear for” the deputies, “it is also a way of freeing them from that. Not to leave them alone, ”explains Marion Nadaud about the deputies concerned, including President Cyrielle Chatelain, Lisa Belluco, Marie-Charlotte Garin, Julie Laernoes and Sandrine Rousseau, figure of the group.

“What I find striking is how much the insults are sexualized, explains Sandrine Rousseau. There’s a spike every time I talk about feminism. We are deeply in control. It also shows the culture of rape. As soon as a woman does not please them, it goes on “I’m going to fuck you” ”, alerts the deputy of Paris. According to Marion Nadaud, the environmental initiative could in the future be extended to threats suffered by members of other groups.
