Antonio Campollo and Alejandro Campollo participated in the Video Mapping Festival in France

He Video Mapping Festival, an event that celebrates the diversity of video mapping in all its manifestations, had the participation of two chapine artists. This event, which offers a tour of video mapping through specific circuits in various cities of the Haute-France region, has provided a platform for the exhibition of international talent, including the Guatemalans Antonio Campollo and Alejandro Campollo of Plaga Studio.

Invited by the French association Rencontres Audiovisuelles and the French Embassy, the talented Guatemalan artists were selected to create an animation piece for one of the monuments included in the festival’s opening circuit. Their participation began with an artistic residency in December 2023, where they collaborated with other international artists in the conceptualization and creation of their work.

The façade of the Masonic Temple of Lille served as a platform to give life to a new world created by the Guatemalans. Regarding their participation in the event, the artists told Guatemala.com that they feel “very grateful and excited to be able to present their art in France, alongside great artists, where they were able to learn and be inspired by their knowledge and technique to be able to apply them here.” [Guatemala]». The opening of the festival took place in Lille, France, and will run until October, covering a total of 30 French cities.

A video mapping that represented the connection between heaven and earth

The work created by the Campollo brothers is inspired by the deep beliefs and symbology of Freemasonry. Exploring the connection between the heavenly and earthly realms, its design suggests that patterns and energies in the higher realms are reflected in the material world. Through a visual journey, they explored the mysteries of the cosmos and the sacred geometry of the divine realms.

The project was directed and animated by Antonio and Alejandro de Plaga Studio, with original music composed by Lucas Verreman.

The first edition of this event will take place from July 17 to 21, 2024 in Antigua Guatemala, presenting video mapping works on a circuit of monuments, which will highlight both local and international talent. In addition to exhibitions, the event will offer workshops and talks on technology, digital art, innovation and design, with the aim of encouraging the discovery and maximization of the potential of new digital art platforms.
