Elections to the 182-member Gujarat Assembly are being held in two phases. In the first phase, polling was held in 89 constituencies on the 1st. 63.31 per cent polling was recorded in these constituencies comprising Saurashtra, Kutch and South Gujarat regions. Polling was conducted peacefully with tight security.

Following this, voting will take place tomorrow (Monday) in the remaining 93 constituencies. These constituencies are comprised of 14 districts under North and Central Gujarat regions which include Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Gandhinagar regions. About 833 candidates belonging to 60 parties are in the fray in these constituencies. Their political future is decided tomorrow.

Strong security arrangements have been made in the state to ensure peaceful conduct of these elections. Along with the state police, the paramilitary is also engaged in intensive surveillance.

In this situation, the Election Commission has advised that everyone should do their democratic duty in the 2nd phase of Gujarat assembly elections. Regarding this, Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar said, “In the first phase of the Gujarat Assembly elections held on the 1st of last year, the voting percentage was low in the cities. To make up for this, I request all the voters to vote in the second phase of the elections. Everyone should do their democratic duty.”
