Ilkay Gundogan joined Barcelona from Manchester City last year. He is returning to Man City within a year. It is known that he is going to the city for free.
Manchester City and Gundogan are waiting to complete the formalities of the agreement. The German midfielder will join the English Premier League champions on a one-year contract. However, there will be an opportunity to extend for one more year.
The Sky Blues will officially announce his return after arriving in England on Wednesday. He could make his second debut in the City jersey next Saturday.
Pep Guardiola did not want to miss the opportunity to get Gundogan back. So his contract in Barcelona is being brought even if it is for one year. Gundogan has a good relationship with Guardiola. The two lived in the same building in Manchester during their time at Man City.
However, Saudi Arabian club Al Nasr showed interest in taking this 33-year-old midfielder. But he chose to return to Man City instead of going there.
He spent seven successful seasons at Man City before moving to Spain. He played more than three hundred matches from 2016 to 2023. He won 12 major titles in the Sky Blues jersey. Among them are five Premier League titles and one Champions League title.
