Gurman: Apple to unveil smart home hub, HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K Oct 13

Apple prepares for a late-year hardware push anchored by an upcoming smart home hub in mid-October 2026, building on a global product release cycle that launched the iPhone 18 Pro, Apple Watch Series 12, and AirPods 5 in September.

John Ternus directs Apple beyond incremental annual refreshes toward entirely new device categories and form factors, according to industry reporting and analysis. While September brought the immediate release of flagship mobile hardware, the corporate pipeline points toward hardware additions stretching across 2026, 2027, and beyond.

Apple Unveils New Smart Home Hub in October

Apple plans to unveil an all-new smart home hub alongside a new HomePod mini and a new Apple TV 4K on Tuesday, October 13, according to reporting from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Described in podcast comments as the company’s next big thing, the tabletop and wall-mounted device features a square display measuring roughly 6 inches.

The tabletop configuration connects its polished metal screen arm to a round, perforated metal base equipped with speaker holes, drawing design inspiration from the classic iMac G4 computer released back in 2002. Supported features on the new operating system include FaceTime and facial recognition, with color options reaching up to four choices.

September Hardware Releases Reach Global Markets

Mac mini and Mac Studio models followed with retail store arrivals on Tuesday, September 22. Early user adoption hit a technical hurdle when a small number of iPhone 18 Pro Max users on the AT&T network experienced an issue causing devices to lose cellular service, preventing calls, texts, and data, which prompted Apple to release iOS 27.0.1 earlier in the week after thousands of users lodged complaints across platforms like the Apple Support Community.
