Madurai,

The Madurai High Court ruled that the controversy would not have arisen if the Madurai passport scam had been investigated in due time and that police officer Davidson Dewasirwad had nothing to do with it.

Passport issue

Suresh Kumar from Madurai, in a petition filed in the Madurai High Court said:-

When I applied to renew my passport which was obtained in 2013, the police informed me that there is a criminal case against me. Considering that I am also involved in the case against Nasruuddin, a similar report has been filed. Nasrudin is my only travel agent. He has nothing to do with me. So order to renew and issue my passport.

He had said this in the petition.

Judge G.R. Swaminathan, who heard the case, passed the order as follows:-

The passport of the petitioner was confiscated in the case of Q division police against Nasrudeen. Nasruddin was the travel agent of the petitioner. Apart from him, the two have no other connection. Therefore, it has been informed by Q division police that there is no restriction for the petitioner to renew his passport. My conscience does not allow me to accept this and allow the petition. In Madurai and Trichy, they have illegally obtained Indian passports for those who left our country and those who left Sri Lanka using fake documents. A case has been registered under various sections in this regard.

CBI Investigation

Meanwhile, the case is being investigated by the CBI. A case has been filed in the Madurai High Court seeking an order to transfer the trial. Even when the High Court ordered to complete the investigation in this case within 6 months, the Q division police did not follow it. BJP on this issue. State President Annamalai has now raised the question.

Regarding this case, in the status report filed by Q division police, it has been decided to file a case against 41 people. This includes Madurai Zone Passport Office officials and State Police officials. Of the central government officials who sought permission to interrogate 13 people, one was allowed to be interrogated.

Similarly, the Tamil Nadu government has given permission to investigate the Assistant Commissioner of Municipal Police Intelligence Division Sivakumar. Also, an inspector and 3 head constables are also being investigated. The final report of this case is going to be filed in the Madurai District Court soon.

Regular review

Accordingly, the concerned judge is advised to investigate the case as soon as possible.

This case has an impact on national security. A scam at a police station in Madurai city has led to the illegal issuance of 54 passports. Those involved in this scam should be prosecuted as soon as possible.

Everyone knows how the police investigation of passport applications is conducted. From the Head Constable to the Superintendent of Police who can conduct the field investigation, the investigation is carried out at several stages and the report is submitted. Municipal Police Commissioners, District Superintendents of Police usually review the issued passports every month.

Kudos to Annamalai

Davidson Devashirwad was the Police Commissioner of Madurai at the time of the scandal. However, he had no contact.

The investigation report procedures are completed at the Deputy Superintendent of Police and Assistant Commissioner, Commissioner level who are the Passport Coordinating Officers.

At the same time, CBI in the court. If the investigation had been completed in due time before the investigation was requested, there would have been no possibility of suspicions arising now. Also, BJP for bringing this issue forward. State President Annamalai is felicitated. Had he not raised the question, the issue would not have come to light.

This is what the judge said in the order.
