The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the shortlist for the best African player, as well as the best player within the continent for the year 2024.
Moroccan Achraf Hakimi, Paris Saint-Germain defender, is on the final list for the 2024 African Player of the Year award.
Hakimi is competing with the Guinean (Serho Geraci), the German Borussia Dortmund striker, and the Nigerian (Ademola Lookman), the Italian Atalanta striker, along with the Ivorian (Simon Adingra), the English Brighton winger, and (Ronwen Williams), the South African and Sun Downs goalkeeper, South Africa.
Hakimi, who won the title of best emerging player on the continent twice in 2018 and 2019, won the league and cup titles in France this year.
As for the shortlist for the Best Player Award in Africa, the Egyptian Al-Ahly duo (Hussein El-Shahat and goalkeeper Mostafa Schubert) compete with the Zamalek winger (Ahmed Sayed Zizo) for the award, accompanied by the Burkinabe player (Issoufou Dayo), defender of the Moroccan club Nahdet Berkane, and goalkeeper for South Africa and Sun Downs.
Schubert Jr. is also competing for the award for the best goalkeeper in Africa with Cameroonian Andre Onana from Manchester United of England, Ivorian Yahya Fofana from France, and South African Williams and his compatriot Stanley Nwabele from Chiapa United from South Africa.
The Moroccan city of Marrakesh will host the CAF Awards ceremony on December 16.
