Halo 2 (from Thursday 8 February on Paramount+)
Year 2552, humanity’s survival is called into question by an alien threat known as the Covenant: the conflict between humans and aliens will be epic. It’s the plot of Halo, the series based on the shooter video game of the same name that later became a franchise, which arrives on Paramount+ with the second season on February 8th. In the role of John 117/Master Chief, the protagonist, there is Pablo Schreiber, Liev’s brother, already seen in Orange is The New Black, American Gods and Defending Jacob. The executive producers are Steven Spielberg and David Wiener (Flesh and Bone, Fear The Walking Dead).
One Day (from Friday 9 February on Netflix)
A romantic series to prepare for Valentine’s Day. Based on the best seller One Day by David Nicholls, One Day is the story of a twenty-year love story followed for one day a year: July 15th. It is the date on which, in 1988, Emma and Dexter met and immediately fell in love, on the eve of their graduation. The series retraces the couple’s twenty years in 14 episodes, between rapprochements and estrangements, moments of joy and pain. In the leading roles are Ambika Mod (This Is Going to Hurt) and Leo Woodal (The White Lotus 2); also starring Eleanor Tomlinson, Essie Davis, Tim McInnerny, Toby Stephens and Joely Richardson. This is not the first adaptation of Nicholls’ book: in 2011 a film was released, also entitled One Day, starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess.
The Rivers of Purple – The series (from Sunday 4 February on Rai 4)
Another series that comes after a movie. In 2000, I Fiumi di Porpora was released with Jean Reno and Vincent Cassel, based on the novel of the same name by Jean-Christophe Grangé. The protagonist is always Inspector Pierre Niemans, older than in the film (where he had the face of Reno). Now Niemans is head of the Central Office against Blood Crimes and works together with the young investigator Camille Dalauney (Erika Sainte), his former student at the Academy. The eight episodes of the first season tell the story of eight crimes that occurred in the French provinces, from the Loire to Haute-Savoie, to the immigrants crowded in Calais. The Purple Rivers – The series consists of four seasons for a total of 32 episodes.
A Killer Paradox (from Friday 9 February on Netflix)
Lee Tang is a college student who works part-time at a convenience store. One day he argues with a customer and kills him with a hammer. Except that customer wasn’t just any person: he was a serial killer. Lee Tang thus discovers that he has a kind of “superpower”: he is able to identify the bad guys. The discovery of this ability transforms him into a vigilante who punishes those who have committed crimes in the past. But a detective sets out on his trail… A Killer Paradox is a South Korean series from February 9th on Netflix.
An Incurable Case of Love (from Friday 9 February on Netflix)
Sakura decided to become a nurse for a very specific reason: she saw a young and beautiful doctor save a man’s life. And she fell in love. Five years later, she Sakura finds herself working in the same hospital as the doctor, Doctor Tendo. And she discovers that the doctor is not at all what he seemed: nicknamed the “devil”, he is a perfectionist who has no regard for his colleagues. And yet she Sakura is still in love with him. Will she be able to earn his respect and affection? Based on the manga of the same name by Maki Enjoji, An Incurable Case of Love is a Japanese series available on Netflix from Friday 9 February.
