Israel is trying to evade the terms of the deal on the Gaza Strip, which provide, in particular, for a permanent ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave and the return of temporarily displaced persons. This statement was made by the radical Palestinian movement Hamas, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

“The Hamas movement has demonstrated the necessary flexibility in order to reach an agreement providing for a complete cessation of aggression against our people, but the occupier (meaning Israel – TASS note) continues to try to evade the terms of this agreement, especially those related to a permanent ceasefire, the return of displaced persons, the withdrawal of troops from the Gaza Strip and meeting the needs of our people,” said a statement published on the movement’s Telegram channel. Hamas stressed that “the movement will continue negotiations” through mediators to reach an agreement that “meets the demands and interests” of the Palestinian people.

On March 4, the Egyptian Al-Ghad TV channel, citing a source, reported that the parties to negotiations on establishing a truce in Gaza had made significant progress during the first day of consultations in Cairo. According to the channel, representatives of Egypt, Qatar, the United States and Hamas are continuing negotiations and aiming to reach some kind of ceasefire agreement before the start of the month of Ramadan. The Israeli delegation is not taking part in this round, which has been ongoing since March 3.

Al Hadath TV channel reported on March 2 that Hamas and Israel had reached an agreement on the duration of the proposed truce in Gaza and the parameters for the exchange of hostages for Palestinians held in Israeli prisons. The channel’s source added that to complete the deal, it is necessary to reach an agreement on the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the northern part of the enclave and the return of residents to these areas. According to Al-Qahira Al-Ikhbariya TV channel, Egypt, Qatar and the United States have offered to introduce a ceasefire for a week in exchange for the release of several elderly hostages held in the enclave. It was noted that Hamas representatives do not agree with the proposal to introduce a short pause in hostilities and continue to insist that it last as long as possible.
