The radical Palestinian group Hamas insists during negotiations with Israel on a permanent end to the conflict, and not just a humanitarian truce, as was the case following the previous agreement at the end of 2023.

As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, this was stated by member of the movement’s Politburo Hussam Badran in a comment to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

He said a permanent ceasefire would allow displaced civilians to return to their homes and deliver needed humanitarian aid.

As the publication notes, Israel insists on the release of dozens of hostages held in the enclave. Badran, in turn, noted that the discussion about the exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners has now faded into the background compared to questions about how to ease the humanitarian situation and end the fighting.

Earlier, the WSJ reported that Hamas representatives could return to Cairo on Sunday to continue negotiations to establish a truce in the Gaza Strip and release the hostages.
