Hamburg’s “Christmas Garden” Illuminates Loki Schmidt Garden with Over 30 Installations

A dazzling display of lights and interactive exhibits has returned to Hamburg, Germany, as the “Christmas Garden” officially opened in the Loki Schmidt Garden on November 15, 2025. The immersive experience, featuring over 30 unique installations, will run until January 11, 2026, offering visitors a festive escape throughout the holiday season.

A Kilometer of Light and Wonder

The “Christmas Garden” invites guests to stroll along an approximately one-kilometer circular route transformed into a winter wonderland. Organizers promise a captivating journey through a series of illuminated spectacles, ranging from enchanting water mist projections to engaging interactive light drums. Among the highlights are a 200-meter-long light path, a 24-meter light tunnel, and a beautifully illuminated fairytale beech tree.

“The goal is to create a magical atmosphere for visitors of all ages,” a senior official stated.

Opening Ceremony Welcomes Guests

Approximately 150 attendees celebrated the ceremonial opening of the “Christmas Garden.” The event was attended by prominent figures including Michael Matthiessen of River Concerts, Prof. Dr. Dominik Begerow from the Hamburg Botanical Garden, and Anne Krischok representing the Society of Friends of the Botanical Garden. The Flottbeker Children’s Choir added to the celebratory mood with a live performance.

Ticket Information and Accessibility

Visitors planning to experience the “Christmas Garden” have a range of ticket options available. Standard adult tickets range from 16.50 to 27.50 euros, with a price of 29.50 euros at the box office. Children aged six to 14 can enter for between 12 and 23 euros, while admission is free for children under five.

Special pricing is available for pupils, students, and seniors aged 65 and over, costing between 12 and 23 euros from Monday to Thursday, excluding the period between December 20th and January 5th. A FlexTicket, priced at 32.50 euros for adults and 28 euros for children, provides access on any opening day.

Family packages are also offered, including a day ticket for 39.50 euros valid for up to five people (two adults and up to three children, or one adult and up to four children) on select dates: November 19th and 26th, December 3rd and 10th, and January 7th. Regular family tickets are priced between 44 and 79.50 euros.
