Exeler Construction & Project Management Expands Footprint with Hamburg Office, Fueled by Regional Growth
A construction firm born in the Emsland region of Germany is poised for significant expansion, driven by a robust project pipeline and a strategic vision to attract top architectural talent. Exeler construction and project management, led by Frank Exeler, is solidifying its presence in northwest Germany while simultaneously setting its sights on a new office in Hamburg’s prestigious Hafencity district.
The company’s success is readily visible across the region, with projects like the conversion of a former savings bank in Lingen, the Berning housing development on Gymnasialstrasse, and the Rosenxt construction site in Wietmarschen all bearing the “Exeler” brand. According to a company release, order books are currently full, a testament to the firm’s growing reputation and expertise. “I’m having fun with it all,” stated Exeler, succinctly capturing the driving force behind his company’s momentum.
From Bricklaying to Regional Leader
Exeler’s journey began with a traditional bricklaying apprenticeship, followed by advanced training as a structural engineer. He launched Exeler construction and project management in 2017, initially operating from space within the Old Forester’s House on Georgstrasse. Rapid growth necessitated a move to a larger office complex at Fiskediek 7a in Lingen-Laxten in 2020.
However, even that location proved insufficient to accommodate the expanding team. At the close of 2024, the company relocated to its current headquarters at Böhmerhof 9 in Lingen, directly opposite the municipal utilities. The new facility now houses a team of 65 employees, including 26 planners, with six dedicated architects.
Strategic Expansion into Hamburg
The decision to establish a second location in Hamburg’s Hafencity, slated for spring 2026, represents a pivotal step in Exeler’s growth strategy. Exeler explained that the move is a direct response to the limitations of the local architectural pool in Lingen. “We work very well with the local architectural offices in Lingen,” he noted, “But their number is limited.” The Hamburg office is intended to bridge this gap and provide access to a wider range of design expertise.
The company plans to actively recruit architects in Hamburg to support projects not only in Lingen but also in other key northwest German cities, including Bremen, Osnabrück, and Papenburg. Exeler believes that incorporating “Hamburg flair, other ideas, a different architectural language” will inject fresh perspectives into ongoing and future projects.
Attracting Talent and Strengthening Regional Ties
The expansion is also a proactive response to the challenges of a competitive labor market. A core objective is to “get creative minds into our region,” fostering innovation and attracting skilled professionals to the Emsland area. Exeler emphasized his admiration for Hamburg’s architectural landscape, describing it as “a perfect mix of modernity and tradition.”
To ensure a cohesive company culture, all Hamburg-based architects will undergo an intensive onboarding process in Lingen, lasting between four and eight weeks. This immersive training period is designed to familiarize new hires with the values and operational principles that define Exeler construction and project management.
The company’s headquarters, NordNeun, at Böhmerhof in Lingen, serves as a central hub for this integration. Exeler’s vision is clear: to blend the dynamism of Hamburg’s architectural scene with the grounded, practical approach that characterizes the Emsland region, ultimately delivering exceptional projects and fostering a thriving creative environment.
