Hamburgers work ‘magic’ to compete for the best recipe in the State – Sabor

With burgers for all types of appetite, the 1st Champions Burger started in Campo Grande on Friday night (22). The gastronomic event, which has free entry, continues until Sunday with exclusive recipes and musical shows that promise to rock the Japanese-Brazilian Sports and Cultural Association.

Organized by the Hamburgueiros do MS and supported by the State Government, the first edition will elect the champion burger of Mato Grosso do Sul. In total, 23 businessmen from the sector participate in the dispute which on the first day already attracted fans of this style of food that varies depending on the creativity of those who do it.

Weslley Renovato says that the event was born out of a joke and provocation among the hamburgers. Even with the competition, he says that everyone sticks together and learns together in the industry. “Our group was born and we have been improving recipes because of our union. We learn from each other, you visit everyone’s burger joint and learn what it’s like,” he comments.

Regarding this weekend’s dispute, he says that the news are exclusive recipes from the establishments, which were free to create the dish. “The champions are each with their best recipe, each with their own seasoning and magic in the kitchen,” he says.

In the competition, the technical judges will evaluate the traditional and gourmet categories following the criteria of seasoning, meat quality and presentation of the dish. Of the 23 participants, three are from cities in the interior of the state, such as Maracaju, São Gabriel do Oeste and Dourados. In addition to them, 12 other burger restaurants are present at the event, but without entering the competition.

Exclusive recipes – HamBugreria is one of those that will compete for the 1st Champions Burger prize. For the occasion, chef Rodrigo Villa Okinawa, 43 years old, created the ‘Zé Leôncio’ burger, which features several ingredients from Mato Grosso do Sul.

Made with cassava bread, the snack includes half-cured country cheese, coriander mayonnaise, egg and farm milk, as well as banana vinaigrette chutney with sugarcane molasses from Furnas de Dionísio. Cassava chips are served to accompany it.

‘Zé Leôncio’, according to the chef, is a combination of ingredients that have everything to do with Mato Grosso do Sul. “This regional line is cool because we strengthen our State and gastronomic culture. It was with this in mind that we created this burger”, he comments.

From Dourados, Isabela Tetila from ‘Romeo Burguer’ is another participant in the competition. The business has existed for six years and is managed in partnership with her husband, Cássio Gabriel. This is the second time they have participated in an event that features hamburgers as the protagonist.

Despite the distance, the businesswoman agreed to be present at the event. “It’s cool and worth it because we really have to take risks, and we’re also promoting it,” she highlights. For the competition, she created ‘Pestare’ made on brioche bread with cream cheese, pesto sauce, crispy onion and pepper jelly.

Geovany Guedes, from Artesanalmente El Toro, bet on the ‘American Sweet’ which is made with a wood-smoked guava burger, cheddar infusion and bacon cut into caramelized cubes. Excited for the event, he reports that he has been preparing for days.

“We prepared a lot, we have been holding meetings and talking for more than months. Expectations are the best possible and one of our differences, besides meat, is the bread we produce. In this bread we add parmesan and oregano,” she explains.

Those who like burgers also showed a lot of expectation and excitement. One of the people who passed by the place on Friday was Eloisa Uchoas, who approved the event proposal. “We are hoping to eat well and have tried two very good ones so far,” she says.

Margarete dos Santos took the opportunity to take her son Augusto, as they both like to go on this type of trip together. “We like to go out for burgers, fries, sodas and milkshakes. We like to try several and now we are getting to know some because it is the first time we are participating”, she comments.

Schedule – Regardless of the result, the public wins in this story. There are 35 different recipes available in the food court, including those exclusive to the competition. Ice cream, chips and cookies from other companies in the Capital are also being sold at the location.

This Saturday, the 1st Champions Burger starts at 11am and continues until 11pm. The program features shows by the duo Mailon Salina and Jaque Altenhofer, DJ Virgínia, Gilson and Junior and Banda V12. On Sunday, following the same schedule, it is the turn of Robson Vieira, DJ Jacson Sebalo, Dieguinho and Neurorock to perform.
