People Power Party⁢ leader Han Dong-hoon announced on⁢ the ⁢8th that he would⁣ provide an additional 15,000 ⁣won in electricity bill support to 1.3 million vulnerable households. He also said that ‍he would⁢ push for the ‘Semiconductor Special Act’, which bundles ⁤semiconductor-related bills proposed by ⁣People Power Party lawmakers, as a party principle.

At the Supreme Council meeting ⁢held at the party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul on the⁤ morning of that‌ day, a representative said, “The⁤ unprecedented heat ‍wave continues, and many vulnerable⁢ groups are ⁣suffering even⁢ more,” and “After careful consideration, we will provide an ⁢additional 15,000 won‌ in electricity bill support to 1.3 million energy-vulnerable households.”

A⁣ representative explained the reason for ⁢setting the support amount, saying, “15,000 won is not an ⁣arbitrary number. The average monthly electricity bill for a ⁢four-person household in our country in the summer is around 76,000 won.” He added, “Vulnerable⁣ groups already⁤ receive support ⁤of ⁣around 60,000 won in the form of electricity bill‍ welfare discounts and energy voucher assistance, so we set the amount (15,000 won) in order ‌to bring their electricity bills‌ close to zero.”

However, he added,‍ “It is a concern that KEPCO’s deficit ⁣is increasing,” and ⁤“since this support was carried ⁢out by utilizing⁤ the remaining balance of the existing energy ‌voucher budget, there is no ⁢risk of increasing KEPCO’s deficit.”

Regarding the promotion of the semiconductor special law as a ‌party principle, Representative Han pointed out, “Without semiconductors, our country cannot⁣ achieve upward development. Compared to other countries, our country’s support is minimal,” and said, “We will establish a ⁤legal basis by building power infrastructure for the semiconductor industry and providing the world’s largest level of subsidies.”

It is expected that the special semiconductor law that Representative Han will ‍present as a ⁣party platform will be ⁣a combination of the bills of Rep. Koh Dong-jin, who proposed the Special Act on Strengthening the Competitiveness of the Semiconductor Industry within⁤ the People Power Party,‍ and ⁣Reps.‍ Park‍ Soo-young and Song Seok-jun, who proposed a ⁢law with ⁣the same purpose. These bills were previously referred to the Industry, Trade, Resources, SMEs and‌ Startups Committee,⁤ but were ‍not tabled due to⁤ political strife.

The special law is⁤ expected ⁣to⁢ include measures such as establishing a ‘Special ‌Committee on Strengthening the Competitiveness⁢ of the Semiconductor Industry’ directly under the President and having ‍the ⁣special committee support fast-track licensing, etc.
