A significant roster shakeup has occurred in the Handball Bundesliga as Croatian player Gianfranco Pribetic has secured an immediate transfer from TVB Stuttgart to GRK Ohrid in North Macedonia. The move leaves coach Misha Kaufmann scrambling to adjust his lineup mid-season as the team battles to avoid relegation.
The unexpected departure, announced shortly after the conclusion of the first half of the season, sees the 25-year-old pivot leaving Stuttgart despite having a contract that extended through the summer. According to reports, Pribetic sought an early termination, and TVB Stuttgart will receive a transfer fee as part of the agreement.
Pribetic’s Impact in Stuttgart
Pribetic joined TVB Stuttgart from Croatian powerhouse RK Nexe Nasice for the 2024/25 season and quickly became a key contributor.Over 52 competitive matches in the Daikin Handball bundesliga and the DHB Cup, the 196 cm tall athlete scored a total of 88 goals for the “Wild Boys.”
“The player expressed a strong desire to pursue this opportunity,” a senior official stated. “We respect his decision and are pleased to have reached an agreement that benefits both parties.”
Internal Solutions and Future Plans
With Pribetic’s exit, TVB Stuttgart will rely on an internal solution to fill the void in the pivot position. Co-captain Samuel Röthlisberger and Max Heydecke will share responsibilities for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.
Heydecke, recently extended through the summer of 2029, is expected to see increased playing time and a more offensive role in the circle. The U19 world champion remains eligible to compete with TSV Neuhausen/Filder 1898 and JANO Filder, having already appeared in eleven competitive games for TVB.
Relegation Battle Intensifies
The timing of Pribetic’s departure is notably challenging for TVB Stuttgart, who currently sit in 14th place with an 11:27 point record following a defeat against MT Melsungen on Thursday. Coach Kaufmann’s team faces a critical February as they strive to climb out of the relegation zone.
The loss of a key offensive player adds further pressure to a team already struggling to find consistency. The club will need to quickly adapt and rely on the development of younger players like Heydecke to navigate the remainder of the season.
