Saturday night belonged to the theater. The Thalia award ceremony took place in the Golden Chapel, the whole event was moderated by Svetlana Witowská (50). Who took home the prizes and who didn’t miss out?

While last year’s Thalia was accompanied by great drama with its guide, this year’s award ceremony was calm in that regard. The theater festival was moderated by Svetlana Witowská (50), who returned for a while to Czech Television, which broadcast live from the National Theatre.

Until now, most of the Thalia Awards have been moderated by actors or actresses. Last year, the president of the organizing Actors’ Association Ondřej Kepka (54) was preparing a speech, but he contracted covid 24 hours before the broadcast. Daniela Písařovicová (44), now Brzobohatá, saved the gala evening at the very last moment.

She did a good job, which is why this year the organizers once again fished in the television waters and invited Svetlana Witowska, at that time the host of the Internet show Spotlight.

At the beginning of the 3rd year of the awards, Thálie Witowská revealed that the National Theater won the most awards in the history of the competition, and other stages were also successful – mostly in Brno, Ostrava and Pilsen.

Ondřej Kepka (54) reminded that we should be proud of Thália. He thanked everyone who “kicked the competition off the ground”. The first prize under the age of 33 was won by Viktor Kuzník from the National Theater Brno. In a joke, he apologized to his colleagues for not telling them about the win in advance.

Award in category BALLET, DANCE AND THEATER OF MOVEMENT won for women by Helena Arenbergerová for the production Where.

As a man, Matěj Šust took a glass sculpture designed by Bořek Šípek as the prince in Cinderella.

It’s not the first time he’s won the Thalia award, he jokingly stated that he prepared a big speech for the first time, he says he shortens it with each award. “Today all that’s left for me is: Thank you.”

The lifetime championship award went to Miroslava Pešíková. “It was interesting and there was enough of it,” briefly reviewed her years-long career.

The voice of Ondřej Brouska (42), who has already won two radio Thalias in the past, was heard from the air. Svetlana asked him if it was true that he refused moderation and that’s why she got it. He confirmed it to her and while she jumped to the toilet, he “jumped” and pretended that he was messing things up and didn’t know it was a live broadcast. He invited Táňa Medvecká (69) on stage. She presented the prize for DRAMA.

She became the winner Karolína Baranová for the title role of Marie Antoinette from the FX Šalda theater performance in Liberec. She admitted that she gets eczema on the back of her neck after every performance because of the role.

Among the men, Petr Kubes, Ivan Trojan and Martin Pechlát were nominated. Ondřej Brousek helped hand over the Medvecká prize, now in person. He began to poke Medvecka and took her around the waist, while she could hardly keep herself from laughing out loud. The award went to Martin Pechlát, known from the film Participants of a trip or from the new series Dad in trouble. And that for the role of Otto von F. in the production Muscovy. “I thought it was clear in Ivan Trojan’s competition, I didn’t prepare anything,” he argued. But he then spoke very fluently and briefly and thanked the family as well. Trojan himself applauded him from the audience.

Actors Daniela Kolářová (77), Jiří Suchý (91) and Stanislav Šárský (83), among others, received awards for lifetime contribution from Thália. Antonín Procházka presented the award to Daniela Kolářová, who pretended that he had said the actress’ name too soon. “But that’s what they said on TV!” he defended himself.

“Our goal is the journey,” she described Ms. Daniela’s acting profession, which received a huge round of applause. “Sometimes we trip or get hurt along the way.” But she hopes that acting is worth it all.

Mr. Šárský reminded that art should combine old things and procedures, which work, and new, modern things. “But when you look around, the old is neglected,” he lamented and thanked the figures from his past. “Without them, I wouldn’t be standing here, God knows if I would be standing anywhere at all.”

Milan Uhde, the author of more than 30 plays, including Ballads for a Bandit, won the prize of the Czech Theater Academy. He received the award from the hands of the Minister of Culture. He was immediately doubly happy, because he took the award as proof that the theater people took him in, although his dream of working as a dramaturg in the theater did not come true. He also earned thunderous applause from the audience.

The outgoing director of Czech Television, Petr Dvořák, also came to present an award, namely for the spread of theatrical art. “This is my first live broadcast since I’ve been off TV, and your last while you’re still on TV.” she scolded Svetlana, and even teased him for thinking even on Sundays.

Mrs. Marie Loucká received the award, her sister Hana accepted it for her.

The award in the ALTERNATIVE THEATER category (for men and women) was presented by actress Lucie Trmíková and Svatava Barančicová. The winner was Becka McFadden, which turned out to be a tongue twister that Trmíková had to deal with with the help of Witowská.

“That’s a big surprise!” said in the breathless voice of Becka, who moved to us five years ago from abroad. Although there was a noticeable accent in her speech, she demonstrated excellent Czech and was obviously very moved and enthusiastic. Part of her speech was also in English when she addressed her partner, and at the end she thanked her mom, who is watching the live broadcast from Pennsylvania!

In the PUPPET THEATER category (for men and women together) he won the Jiří Kniha award thanks to the performance Around the world five times. “That prize is bigger than me! My wife told me to hold off, let it be funny. If it’s going to be long, the lady in the seventh row is to blame. That’s why they put puppets in my hand, because it’s hard but still futile,” amused the audience.

In the OPERA category, two ladies from the production were nominated for women Pink cavalier. Promenaila ji Arnheiður Eiríksdóttir. “I asked my husband for help with grammar, so he’s the first one I want to thank,” the pretty blonde apologized for reading the speech from a piece of paper.

For men, Jaroslav Březina won the battle for the role of Herod in the production Salome. The award was thus won by the National Theater Brno. “You’ve made me feel conflicted, but I have to deal with it,” amused.

Another prize for lifetime championship, this time in opera, went to Jan Hladík. “I’m bursting with happiness and pride. The most important thanks go to my wife, who has put up with me since JAMU.” Since he spoke for a long time, the moderator ended his speech with another dig at the director of CT. “Hopefully we can make the transmission before the end of Director Dvořák’s term of office,” Svetlana snapped.

It’s time for the category: MUSICAL, OPERETA AND OTHER MUSICAL DRAMATIC GENRES WOMEN. The owner of two Thalias and the head of the Pilsen musical ensemble Lumír Olšovský came to present the award. And the winner was Hana Holišová for the role of Marta in the adaptation of the same name. “Time Goes On,” she realized Hana and admitted that, like her role – Marta Kubišová, she doesn’t like to speak for herself, she prefers to sing.

It is interesting that Hana also defeated her sister Míša Horka, who received a nomination for her role in a musical Sweeney Todd. “I never would have thought that, she would deserve it too” Holišová did not forget her.

Libor Matouš, Tomáš Savka and Milan Němec were nominated for men. The award went to Tomáš Savka for the role of Max Bialystock (taking into account his performance as Jiří Suchý in the production Jonáš a tingl-tangle) at the Moravian-Silesian National Theatre.

How does Tomáš Savka, one of the finalists of the first SuperStar, live? Veronika Kuželková, Jan Jedlička

“I recently turned 40, I’m still moved,” Tomáš explained and did not forget to thank his wife Zuzana, who brings up their daughter when he doesn’t have time. “We equalized – Thalia, 2:2!” said the 1st row participant SuperStar jokingly in response to the fact that even his wife had acquired some Thalias in the past.

František Zacharník was also awarded for his lifetime championship. He could not accept the award in person.

On the other hand, Jiří Suchý, who will celebrate his 92nd birthday on October 1st, arrived and received a nice round of applause, but he almost forgot to accept the award itself. “I thought she might not have passed out,” he joked and embarrassed Lumir Olšovský and Witowska. At first, Mr. Suchý was surprised that he should receive a prize for something that he enjoyed very much all his life. But then he admitted: “I was looking forward to that prize!”

Svetlana then mentioned Dvořák again in the middle of everything digging, when she pushed Ondřej Kepka onto the stage. “Mr. Headmaster is in a hurry!” she joked. Later, a star from “abroad” also received an exceptional award – Emília Vášáryová won the extraordinary Thália for her drama. In her speech, she alluded to the current elections in Slovakia. She also received a huge round of applause.
