Racing incidents Mar Event, Several Horses Face Further Scrutiny
A series of incidents during a recent race meeting have prompted further investigation into the performance of several horses, wiht some facing mandatory veterinary examinations and barrier trials. The events, detailed in an official report, highlight challenges faced by both horses and jockeys during the competition.
Several horses experienced difficulties from the start, impacting their overall performance.Star Brose (J463), ridden by H Bowman, encountered early interference, shifting inward and making contact with Silver King. Both horses were subsequently maneuvered to find positions behind the leading pack.
Handsome Bomb (H402) also faced a troubled start, jumping slowly and colliding with Perfecto Moments, which had shifted outward. Jockey L Ferraris expressed disappointment with Handsome Bomb’s response in the Home Straight, stating the horse “failed to respond to his riding.” Ferraris added that,suspecting a potential issue,he refrained from fully urging the horse to the finish. A preliminary veterinary inspection revealed no significant findings, but the horse will undergo an official veterinary examination before being cleared to race again.
Further down the field, Apolar Fighter (J169) and Lucky Blessing (K073) were involved in an incident during the concluding stages. C L Chau, piloting Apolar Fighter, reported the horse shifted inward under pressure, making contact with Lucky Blessing. Both horses were sent for post-race sampling.
Handsome Blond (K241) faced a particularly challenging race. According to jockey Y L Chung, the horse was instructed to settle comfortably but was forced to race wide and without cover after being unable to cross runners. “As a result, Handsome Blond was unable to finish the race off in the Home straight,” Chung stated. The horse’s performance, finishing tailed out, was deemed unacceptable by stewards, and it will be required to demonstrate satisfactory performance in a barrier trial and pass a veterinary examination before returning to competition.
Draco (J115) experienced a different type of difficulty, being held up for clear running between the 300 and 200-meter marks while attempting to move to the outside of Apolar Fighter. Draco was also sent for post-race sampling.
Dragon sunrise (J269) encountered issues in the Home Straight, with jockey K De Melo reporting the horse “hung in” and proved difficult to control. Perfecto Moments (J003) also faced challenges,with jockey M L Yeung unable to fully test the horse while racing tight to the inside of Lucky Blessing.
