Prince Harry’s memoirs storm the German book charts. A few days after its release, the title “Spare” (German title “Reserve”) is heading towards 100,000 copies sold, as Media Control announced on Friday. On the first day of sale on Tuesday (January 10th) alone, 40,000 copies were sold in Germany.

According to data from Media Control, the book is particularly popular with younger readers in the 30 to 39 age group (30 percent). And it is mainly women who access the title (68 percent), as it was said. “Demand is so huge that the Duke of Sussex’s memoirs could become the best-selling non-fiction book in the last ten years,” said Ulrike Altig, Managing Director of Media Control.

The English-language edition of the autobiography sold more than 1.4 million copies on the day it was published. This was announced by the publisher Penguin Random House on Wednesday (local time) in New York. No other non-fiction book by the publisher reached such a number on the first day of publication. A total of 1.43 million copies – including hardcover editions as well as e-books and audio books – were sold on Tuesday in the USA, Canada and Great Britain. (dpa)
