Harting on Future-Proofing Industry: Resilience, Automation & Digitalization

by Priyanka Patel

Espelkamp, Germany – As industries worldwide grapple with supply chain disruptions and the urgent need for sustainable practices, the Harting Technology Group recently hosted an international press conference to showcase solutions for a resilient and future-proof industrial landscape. Journalists from around the globe gathered to explore innovations centered on resilient energy infrastructure, smart manufacturing, robotics, and digital development processes, signaling a proactive approach to the challenges facing modern industry.

The event highlighted the critical role of reliable connectivity in powering the next generation of industrial systems. Harting executives emphasized the growing demand for both data and energy, and how their connection technology ensures both are transmitted securely and efficiently. “Data and energy/performance are the central lifelines of modern plants. Our connection technology ensures that both are transmitted reliably and safely,” stated Norbert Gemmeke, Senior Vice President Global Product Development, Project Management, Innovation, during his presentation. The focus extended beyond simply meeting current needs, with discussions centering on how to adapt to the ever-increasing energy demands of an industrialized world.

“Products, solutions and services around the All Electric Society will form the backbone of our future industry and society,” says Jörg Scheer, Senior Vice President Market at Harting.

The need for intelligent, interconnected automation solutions capable of handling increasing levels of power and data transmission was a recurring theme. Harting stressed the importance of stable, scalable networks and integrated energy storage systems, with modular infrastructure and innovative connector and cable solutions playing a key role in future-proofing energy systems and efficiently managing varying load situations. This emphasis on adaptability reflects a broader industry trend towards building more resilient and flexible infrastructure.

The Rise of Robotics and Flexible Manufacturing

Beyond energy infrastructure, the conference as well delved into the rapidly evolving fields of robotics and industrial manufacturing. The discussion highlighted a shift towards mobile, collaborative, and increasingly autonomous systems, alongside traditional industrial solutions. Modular machine concepts, designed for maximum flexibility, are seen as crucial for enabling the industrial transformation required for the factories of the future, allowing manufacturers to adapt quickly to changing production demands.

Product experts explained the respective application areas of the innovations at exhibits and demonstrators.

Digital Tools and the Future of Industrial Connectivity

The conference also addressed advancements in automation, focusing on trends supporting higher data rates, increased device diversity, and networked production environments. Harting highlighted the role of modern shielding concepts, hybrid connection technology, and modular designs in enabling flexible device concepts. Digital tools, such as configurators and data services, were presented as key enablers for streamlining planning and procurement processes, allowing companies to quickly identify and integrate technical solutions. “At many applications, the right interface ultimately decides whether systems function reliably. That’s why we place value on high quality and reliable products,” explained Danny Hörig, Industry Segment Manager Robotics at Harting.

Just days after the press conference, Harting offered a preview of its offerings at the Hannover Messe, providing media representatives with an early look at the technologies shaping the future of industrial networking. This preview underscored the company’s commitment to staying at the forefront of innovation and providing solutions for an increasingly connected industrial world. The company’s sales figures reflect this growth, with a reported 1.1 billion euros in sales for the 2024/25 financial year, according to a company statement. HARTING Americas reported a 33% sales increase, contributing to a 17% worldwide growth for the company.

Jörg Scheer was appointed to the Management Board of HARTING Customised Solutions Management GmbH on October 1, 2023, bringing decades of industry experience to the role, as announced by CEO Philip Harting. Scheer’s appointment signals a continued focus on customized solutions and innovation within the Harting Technology Group.

Looking ahead, Harting will be participating in the Industrial Ethernet Week 2026, scheduled for February 25-26, 2026, offering further insights into the future of industrial connectivity. The event promises to showcase trends, use cases, and solutions for smart device design and field installation, solidifying Harting’s position as a key player in the evolving industrial landscape.

What does the future hold for industrial automation? The conversation at Harting’s recent press conference suggests a continued emphasis on resilience, flexibility, and the seamless integration of data and energy. As industries navigate an increasingly complex world, companies like Harting are positioning themselves to provide the critical infrastructure needed to thrive.
