Federal agencies are now informing Harvard that some previously canceled research funding is being restored.

  • Federal agencies have begun notifying Harvard about the restoration of some canceled research funding.
  • This comes after a federal judge in Boston ruled last week that the Trump administration illegally canceled nearly $3 billion in funding for the university.
  • The judge described the government’s move as a “smokescreen” for targeting Harvard and other universities.
  • A Harvard spokesperson confirmed the notices but stated that payments have not yet been restored.

The notices come approximately one week after a federal judge in boston declared that the Trump administration had unlawfully terminated close to $3 billion in Harvard’s research funding. The judge characterized the administration’s rationale concerning antisemitism on college campuses as a “smokescreen” used to target Harvard and other academic institutions.

“Harvard has begun to receive notices of reinstatements on many of the previously terminated federal awards from a range of federal agencies,” a Harvard spokesperson confirmed.”So far, payments have not been restored on these awards.”
