Harvey Elliott Updates Liverpool Future: “I Need To Be Selfish”

HONG KONG – July 24, 2025 – Harvey Elliott remains undecided about his future at Liverpool, admitting he must “be selfish” as he weighs his options before the transfer window closes.

Elliott’s playing time was limited in his first season under Arne Slot. This has led to interest from clubs like West Ham, Brighton, and RB Leipzig. Reports suggest Liverpool would demand £50 million for him, or £40 million with a buy-back clause.

His future hinges on discussions with Slot and the club’s leadership. Elliott is also assessing whether new signings, such as Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, will further restrict his path to first-team football.

“If I had it my way, I would be here for the rest of my career, it’s as simple as that. I love everything about the club,” Elliott stated. “But at the same time, I kind of need to be selfish with myself and see what’s best for me.”

Elliott has ambitious goals, aiming for England’s World Cup squad and continued player development. “I think it’s still something I need to review, I need to have a talk with everyone and review the situation,” he explained. “Obviously we have many new players that have come in, so whether it blocks the path for me, I’m not sure.”

He added, “It’s something for me to decide and have a look at. As I said, just review the situation. But my main focus is here. At the moment I’m here for the season, that’s as far as I’m aware, unless anything changes. We have a busy pre-season, it’s nonstop, I just need to make sure I focus on that and just be ready for anything.”

It appears likely that Elliott’s opportunities could diminish further with incoming transfers. A move before September 1 seems probable. While leaving his boyhood club for regular game time to boost his World Cup chances is a tough prospect, Elliott is approaching it pragmatically.

Had Liverpool not advanced so significantly, potentially even signing Alexander Isak, Elliott might have had a clearer route. However, Slot’s decisions, evidenced by Elliott starting only six of his 28 appearances last season, seem to have shaped his prospects.
