Late Chief Minister, politician and actor MGR’s photos of the house he lived in Sri Lanka and the house he lived in Kerala for some time have come out and have surprised his fans.

MGR, born Marudhur Gopalan Ramachandran, was born the fifth son of Gopalan Menon and Sathyabhama in Navalapatti, near Kandy, Sri Lanka.

MGR, being the last son, was very dear to his parents. Even the naming of him has an interesting story. Gopalan combined the name Chandran from his father Chandrasekaran Menon’s name and Rama from Satyabhama’s father Sitharaman Nair’s name to name Ramachandran.

After the death of MGR’s father, because one of his brothers and a sister also died in Sri Lanka, Satyabhama decided to leave there and came to Kerala with his children. When she asked her husband’s family to give her husband’s share, they refused, so she lived with her mother Saraswati.

Due to family poverty, MGR left school and started focusing on stage plays with his brother Chakrapani. Later he grabbed the film opportunity and rose to become a leading actor. Apart from being an actress, MGR is also a producer and director. MGR was inspired by Gandhian principles and joined the Indian National Congress Party.

Beyond the film industry, MGR entered politics and became an active politician. He was the chief minister three times.
