An attempt is being made to carry out a constitutional coup in Armenia, which has already been openly announced by the head of the current administration and his various henchmen, Avetik Chalabyan, co-founder of the “Hayakve” initiative, announced at the press conference held today.
“Under the false guise of constitutional reforms, an attempt is being made to eliminate the independent Armenian statehood, turning it into a semi-state entity openly dependent on Turkey and Azerbaijan. The purpose of the adoption of the “New Constitution” is the actual cancellation of the Declaration of Independence of Armenia, which defines the main national goals of Armenia, such as: building a powerful national state, international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, reunification of Armenia and Artsakh. The representatives of the current administration themselves admitted that they are doing all this under the compulsion of Baku and Ankara. Moreover, they threaten the Armenian people with a new war if they do not comply with this coercion. Actually, after giving Artsakh to the enemy on a platter, on the direct instructions of that same enemy, they want to blackmail the people to establish such an unconstitutional order that will end the existence of independent Armenian statehood.
With this monstrous act, an attempt is made to alienate Armenians from the state they created, to deprive them of their historical rights and cultural heritage, to eliminate the memory and dignity of the Armenian man, his natural right to live as a full citizen in his historical homeland. “The Armenian man is now offered to choose between dishonor and war, although the one who chooses dishonor gets war, defeat, and double dishonor as a result,” Avetik Chalabyan said.
He mentioned that the members of the civil initiative “Hayakve” take a decisive commitment to fight against the anti-national and anti-state process started by the current administration and to prevent its implementation.
Chalabyan called on citizens who are concerned about the fate of their homeland to join the struggle to form a united front for the defense of independence and prevent the disintegration of independent Armenian statehood.
