During the night from the day before yesterday Saturday 04 to yesterday Sunday 5 May 2024, a young person from Madina Bowi, an area within the district of Madinatoul Salam, in the rural commune of Tarambaly, set himself on fire. The tragedy occurred in Ditinn, a sub-prefecture under Dalaba prefecture. Amadou Oury, 37 years old, as it is about him, is mentally disturbed, according to those close to him. According to our information, he doused himself with gasoline before setting the fire. Rushed to hospital for treatment, he eventually succumbed to his injuries. But long before, he had recounted his misadventure and the reasons for his action.

“It was during the night from Saturday to yesterday Sunday that the act happened in Ditinn. The deceased’s name is Amadou Oury. He committed suicide, he was not killed. He bought gasoline which he doused himself with before setting the fire. It was a lighter that he used to light the fire, we were even shown the lighter. It was divine will, he took the initiative to commit suicide by setting himself on fire. Currently, we are in Dalaba, we have been to the gendarmerie, the town hall, the justice system.

Currently, we are at the prefectural hospital morgue to collect the body. This is where we will bury him. The deceased was at his guardian’s house, it was there that he committed suicide. When he set himself on fire, he was rushed to the hospital, he did not die immediately. So his tutor asked him why he did that, he said he just did it. He even took it on video, which he gave to us. He is 37 years old, single without children. He is a blacksmith by profession, but he has been mentally disturbed for years. He was missing, no one knew where he was, it was following his death that we understood that he was in Ditinn,” says Samba Diouma, sector head of Madina Bowi, in Tarambaly.

Note that Amadou Oury was buried this Monday after the 1:30 p.m. prayer in Dalaba.
