Aucas’ dream of lifting the Libertadores Under 20 trophy came to an end this Thursday, March 14, after losing to Boca Juniors in the semifinals.
With goals from Santiago Dalmasso (36′) and Juan Cruz Payal (84′), the current champion of this tournament, beat Aucas 2-1, who scored through Lautaro Di Lollo (own goal). Boca Juniors obtained their ticket to the grand final, where the winner of the other semifinal between Rosario Central and Flamengo will await them.
The capital team ended up playing with ten men due to the expulsion of Elkin Perlaza in the 79th minute. Despite the numerical inferiority, Aucas was able to tie the match, but a header hit the post in the final stretch of the match.
In his first participation in this tournament, Aucas exceeded his expectations, qualifying for the round of the four best. Elements like Wilmer Accordingly, Elkin Perlaza and Christopher Zambrano stood out in this contest, being the highest points of the eastern team.
As a fact worth highlighting, this was the first edition of the Libertadores Sub 20 that did not have Independiente del Valle as a representative of Ecuador.
