Thiruvananthapuram: Public prosecutor M Salahuddin has received death threats in the Karaikkamandapam Rafeeq murder case. Two days ago, a court had sentenced seven accused in the Rafeeq murder case to life imprisonment. Following this, the fourth accused, Malik’s wife’s father Mahmood, threatened him. Fort police have registered a case against him.

At around 7am, Salahuddin opened the gate to walk out and was threatened by a man on a scooter. He imprisoned his son-in-law and threatened not to live here. The man who went with the scooter came back again and continued threatening. The investigation revealed that he was the father of Malik’s wife. Subsequently, Salahuddin lodged a complaint with the Fort Police. The case was registered for intimidation, unlawful restraint and indecent exposure.

The incident took place on October 7, 2016 at 9.30 pm at Thulavila on the Karaikkamandapam National Highway. Rafeek was killed by a tornado. An hour before Rafiq’s death, Rafiq’s murder was triggered by his resentment that Rafiq and his gang had hacked to death the first accused in the case, Ansakir’s mother’s brother, Abushakeer, in a new caravanserai.

Defendants, friends and relatives of Abushakeer, beat Rafeeq to death in front of the Thulavila Narayana Guru statue and dragged him across the road to the Thulavila National Highway. The accused saw Rafeeq leaving the police jeep and fled. Rafeeq, who was unconscious at the scene, was rushed to the Nemom Police Medical College Hospital and later to the intensive care unit of a private hospital, but could not be rescued.
