The Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) has activated the Orange Alert for eight districts of Mexico City due to the forecast of high temperatures for the afternoon of Thursday, May 2, 2024.
The municipalities affected by Orange Alert are Benito Juárez, Coyoacán, Cuauhtémoc, Gustavo A. Madero, Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, Miguel Hidalgo and Venustiano Carranza.
Thermometers are expected to reach between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., which represents a risk to the health of the inhabitants of these areas.
In addition, the SGIRPC has issued the Yellow Alert for seven more municipalities in the capital: Álvaro Obregón, Azcapotzalco, Cuajimalpa, Gustavo A. Madero, Tláhuac, Tlalpan and Xochimilco.
Temperatures of between 28 to 30 °C are expected during the same period of time in these areas.
Faced with these adverse weather conditions, the population is recommended to take precautions such as using sunscreen, wearing light-colored clothing, wearing sunglasses and a hat or cap to protect themselves from solar radiation.
