Due to heat wave and severe drought, most of the world’s rivers have dried up. Satellite images have emerged showing the rapid decline in the length and size of rivers in the US, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Drought monitoring agencies point out that global warming has reduced rainfall and increased evaporation from rivers. The dryness of the tributaries of the Colorado River is direct evidence of the drought in the western part of the United States. Lake Mead, the nation’s largest reservoir, which was instrumental in the river’s survival, now holds only a third of what it did in 2000.

Lake Mead is also relied upon by the people of Mexico. The bottom of the Yangtze River in China is visibly dry. China has issued its worst drought warning in nine years. Factories in Siachen region have been closed due to hydropower shortage. The water level of the Rhine River, starting from the Alps, has dropped to 32 cm in various places. Due to this, the cargo traffic through this route has stopped.
