Heavy rains expected in 4 southern districts till June 9; Other districts may receive less rain

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in the first week of June (June 3-9) in southern Kerala. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts are forecast to receive more than normal rainfall during this period. Other districts are likely to receive less rainfall than usual at first. During the second week (June 10-16), all the districts are expected to receive less rainfall than normal during this period.

The yellow alert has been issued in the following districts. The possibility of isolated heavy rains is forecast. Heavy rainfall is defined as a rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

On the other hand, it has been informed that fishing should not be allowed off the coast of Kerala today (02-06-2022) and tomorrow (03-06-2022).

Fisherman vigilance instruction

The Kerala Meteorological Department has forecast strong winds of 45 to 55 kmph along the Kerala-Lakshadweep coast from 02-06-2022 to 03-06-2022. Fishing is not allowed in these areas.

02-06-2022 to 03-06-2022: At speeds of 40 to 50 kmph along the Kanyakumari coast, Gulf of Mannar, southern Tamil Nadu coast, south-western Bay of Bengal, south-eastern Arabian sea and southeastern Bay of Bengal. The Central Meteorological Department has forecast strong winds of up to 60 kmph at times.
04-06-2022: The Central Meteorological Department has forecast strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph in the south-eastern Bay of Bengal. Fishing is not allowed in the above areas and dates.
