The Oscar winner was recently interviewed and said that his parents have always instructed him how to properly treat a woman, and to respect their space. “My father always told me to be attentive to the woman’s desire. And always stop if she asks. When I was in situations like this, I always knew how to stop,” he said.
He also revealed for the first time that the same things his father told him helped him when he himself went through sexual harassment, even though it was particularly difficult for him, and according to him, it took him a while to get back on his feet and have a stable and healthy relationship. “I knew at the time it wasn’t right, that’s not how things should be,” McConaughey said.
He also added and said that despite the sexual abuse he went through, he promised himself not to let it rule his life and to be afraid of relationships. “I don’t deny that it happened. But I don’t allow it to be a burden on my life, to manage me, and to affect the way I deal with people,” he concluded.
