A father died after being bitten by a poisonous snake on a private property in Queensland, Australia

According to reports, the man, in his 60s, was bitten on the hand in the Lockyer Valley, about 50 km from Brisbane shortly before 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

The father of two died before paramedics arrived. The gender of the snake has not yet been confirmed following the toxicology report, but it is believed to be an ‘eastern brown’ snake.

The man’s neighbor, Michelle Vederdi, told the “Courier-Mail” that she received multiple calls and messages from family members and friends following the tragedy.

“They asked if I was okay, there were four ambulances and police cars,” Vederdi said.

“Someone told me they heard his wife yelling through the fence for help before the ambulances got there.”

Dardi said that the man was previously an owner of pythons and that he was well versed in the field of handling snakes.

A contractor at Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers, Heather McMurray, said that the snake season in Queensland is at its peak between the months of October and April.

“The heat and humidity definitely bring the snakes out – the pythons like the humidity and the brown snakes like the hot, dry days,” she said.

The police will prepare a report intended for the coroner and will not treat the death as a suspicious criminal case.
