Hernias – Health priority

Fold or mass in the groin or abdominal wall, hernias are common and while they may be painless, their complications may require emergency surgical treatment.

The most frequent being the inguinal hernia which corresponds to the passage of abdominal viscera, most often the small intestine, through the inguinal canal to appear at the level of the groin.

What are the most affected subjects? What are the potential complications? What are the risk factors? Can hernias be prevented? What support ?

At the end of the program, we take stock of the new gene therapy strategy against sickle cell disease and beta-thalassemia, which are two genetic diseases affecting hemoglobin and therefore grouped together in the category of beta-hemoglobinopathies. We talk about it with the Dr Giulia Hardouin, post-doctoral fellow in Annarita Miccio’s team at l’Institut Imagine in Paris. This work was carried out by a team of scientists from Inserm, Université Paris Cité and AP-HP within the Imagine Institute.
