A woman in her 20s has been sentenced to four years in prison for attempting to extort Tottenham Hotspur and Los Angeles FC forward Heung Min Son with false claims of pregnancy, according to reports from yonhap News TV. Teh case,which unfolded at the end of 2024,highlights the vulnerabilities even high-profile athletes face to predatory schemes.
The young woman allegedly demanded approximately 300 million won (roughly €180,000) from the South Korean striker, initially threatening to publicize a fabricated pregnancy. Reports indicate she even sent an ultrasound image as part of the coercion attempt.
The extortion plot didn’t end with the initial demand. Assisted by her boyfriend,identified as Mr. Yong, the woman attempted to secure an additional 70 million won (€40,000). Mr.yong was also convicted and sentenced to two years in prison. Both individuals have been incarcerated since May.
Son, refusing to succumb to the pressure, filed a lawsuit, and the trial was conducted behind closed doors last month. The footballer’s swift action and refusal to pay the ransom were crucial in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
