A festive and less-crowded choice to Frankfurt‘s larger Christmas markets awaits visitors this year, as the StadtWaldHaus in the city forest prepares to host its 18th annual Christmas market on Saturday, November 22nd. A Local Tradition Blossoms in the Forest
While the city center’s Christmas market, opening November 24th, typically draws the largest crowds, the StadtWaldHaus market offers a distinctly different experience. From noon to 5 p.m., attendees can browse a bazaar for early gifts and immerse themselves in a variety of seasonal activities both inside the StadtWaldHaus information center and on the grounds of the adjacent Fasanerie.
What to expect at the stadtwaldhaus Christmas Market
The market boasts a diverse programme designed to appeal to all ages. Visitors can explore informative stands dedicated to the local forest ecosystem, and guided tours of the fasanerie – a wildlife sanctuary – are scheduled throughout the afternoon at 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m.,3 p.m., and 4 p.m.
Families will notably enjoy the opportunity to observe deer,eagle owls,and other animals,with both guided and self-guided tour options available. A highlight of the event is a captivating bird of prey presentation by skilled falconers.
Adding a unique element to the festivities, employees of the city forestry will showcase their artistic talents with live chainsaw art demonstrations, offering the resulting wooden creations for sale.
Sounds of the Season and Forest Adventures
The afternoon will also feature musical performances, with the brass group “Bläserfreunde Schrot & Horn” performing on the guesthouse meadow at 2:30 p.m. under the direction of chairman Maximilian Lust. Younger guests can participate in Santa Claus crafting, and adventurous visitors can test their skills with a climb up a large oak tree using a climbing harness.
For those seeking a more tranquil experience, the market offers opportunities to bake bread over a campfire, listen to winter fairy tales, or explore the nocturnal world with guided “night dream” tours.

The Waldladen (forest shop) will open at 9 a.m., offering locally sourced Frankfurt game meat and other regional products. Food and drink stands will complete the offering,and visitors are encouraged to bring their own reusable cups for mulled wine,mead,or children’s punch.
Access to the StadtWaldHaus is best achieved by bike or tram line 17 to the oberschweinstiege stop, followed by a ten-minute walk. Parking is available on the Isenburger Schneise, as direct car access to the StadtWaldHaus is limited.admission to the Christmas market is free, and no registration is required.
