The first story of the journalist of “black” always on the side of women

“Hidden Rooms” is the first novel by Angela Marino, a chronicler trained in investigative journalism. A tale full of references to the crimes of recent years – some more recognizable, others more by the “insiders” – but above all that puts our most terrible and common ghosts in line. A skein of suffering and secrets, apparent scars and alibis, resentments and reprehensible consequences, which already from the title plays with a recurring leitmotiv, the double one of hidden cameras and physical cameras where lives cross or seek refuge and events take place sheltered from prying eyes.

Against the background of the murder of the eighteen-year-old student Diletta Ivak, a Naples abundant in nuances and contradictions is revealed. A decayed and opulent urban bourgeoisie seems to be opposed by a desolate province, still obstinately archaic, where the crime takes place. On a Sunday in September, a field of golden wheat, a child chases a kite. In this scenario, in the countryside on the outskirts of a small village in the province of Naples, the lifeless body of Diletta is found. Naked, but with intact and very white skin, as if someone had wanted to preserve its beauty, it seems as if she has fallen asleep among the ears. Only a thin string around her throat, under the handkerchief with which her face was mercifully covered, suggests that she was killed. It won’t take long to get to know her killer, in front of the judge in an interrogation who fills the novel with the “rooms” of the co-stars. The press and the media appropriate the case, engulfing it, only to be displaced, shocked by it. Because the Ivak case is more than it seems. Because more important than who, in certain crimes, is why.

Born in 1983, Angela Marino lives in Naples and works as a crime reporter in the editorial staff of Fanpage.it. In 2014 he published, for Round Robin, the reportage book on eco-mafias, “Once upon a time there was the flame king”. “Hidden Rooms” is his first novel. Published in an independent publication and for sale on Amazon, in kindle and print versions, it is already climbing the charts.
