Bangalore: Protests over hijab in educational institutions continue in Karnataka. Three high school students returned without writing the model exam after being asked to remove their hijab at a public school in Shimoga. At a school in Chikmagalur, parents chanted slogans questioning the non-attendance of hijab wearers in the classroom. Parents also protested in Tumkur. The police intervened and calmed down. Meanwhile, Govt. At Composite Urdu High School, eight students were allowed to sit for the exam wearing uniform colored hijab.

At the same time, the government reiterated its commitment to implement the High Court’s interim order that religious uniforms should not be allowed in schools until the final verdict. However, the Congress alleged that the High Court had termed the schools as having uniform rules and that it was misinterpreting and barring students everywhere. Muslim members of Congress met the Chief Minister against the hijab ban.

Meanwhile, Congress MLA Sameer Ahmed Khan apologized for the controversial remark that violence against women is on the rise in India because of not wearing the hijab. The petition against the hijab ban will continue to be heard in the High Court today. Colleges closed after clashes will reopen today.
