Pope Francis stated that he is with the people of Ukraine in the persecution they are facing. His heart was always with them. In the prayer meeting held on Wednesday, the Pope said that he is especially with those who live in the area where bombing is taking place. The Pope called on those controlling the war to end violence and restore peaceful coexistence.
Since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Pope has repeatedly called for peace and an end to war. The Pope also does not hide his fear that the war will escalate into nuclear conflicts. But the Pope is facing criticism for his delay in criticizing the Russian president by name.
Last month, days after the war began, the Pope asked Russian President Vladimir Putin by name to end the violence. The Pope’s appeal was detailed as the bloodshed and tears during the occupation of Ukraine are haunting. This was after Russia’s action of seizing 4 regions of Ukraine.
