Thrissur: Peruvanam Kuttan Marar accepts the decision of Paramekkav Devaswat to remove him from the position of Mela Pramani of Thrissur Pooram. He has no complaint against the Devaswom Board’s decision. His size is the size of Thrissur Pooram. He said that he was happy to continue as the head of the fair for many years.

It was the difference of opinion with the Paramekkav Devaswam that led to Peruvan losing his position as head. Last day, Melapramani was a festival for Paramekkao work. At this time Peruvanam had also taken his son with him. Peruvanam placed his son in the forefront of the fair. But the son’s name was not in the Devaswom list. They intervened and moved him to the back row. Then there was a situation where Peruvanam Kuttanmarar put down the chenda. Later he completed Chenda Koti Melam. But the Devaswom Board was very dissatisfied with this action.

Following this, the Devaswom Board met yesterday. But Peruvanam responded that beating his son was not the reason for his removal. It was Devaswam who gave birth to his son. The campaign that the change is due to beating the son is not true. He said that Devaswam had brought his son to the Melamun row last year.

The Devaswom Board later announced that Aniyan Marar will preside over this year’s Ilanjithara Mela. For the last 25 years, Peruvanam Kuttan Marar was the head of the Elanjithara Mela. Devaswom secretary G Rajesh told the media that the change was based on the demand that senior instrumentalist Aniyan Marar should be given an opportunity to hold the position of Pramani for at least one round.

Anian Mararak is 78 years old. Paramekkav Devaswom Board decided after detailed discussions to give him a chance as Mela Pramani. Since 1961, Aniyan Marar Puram has been in the east. There is also a plan to give fair space to the artists on a rotating basis. For the past 40 years, Anian Marar from East has been a participant in Paramekavu’s Ilanjithara Mela. In 2005, he held the Pramanya for Paramekkav’s Daylight Pursuit. In 2012, Tiruvambadi also became the head of the Daylight Festival. This belated position is also a rare tribute to Aniyan Marar, a brother of Mela lovers who has made Chenda Mela life for six decades.

Elanjithara Mela is a Chenda Mela held as part of Thrissur Pooram. Elanjitharamelam is presented by Paramekkav section. Pandi Melam is performed at Ilanjithara which is about two hours long. This fair will take place under the Ilanji tree located within the walls of the Vadakkumnathan temple. Legend has it that Paramekkav Bhagwati’s birthplace is under this Ilanji tree. About 300 artists participated in the Elanjithara Mela staged last May under the leadership of Peruvanath.
