After the disastrous fire, the face of the historic stock exchange in Copenhagen collapsed despite the stabilization. It was not clear at first if anyone was injured in the disaster.
The masonry of the burnt half of the historic stock exchange in Copenhagen has collapsed. Despite the stabilization, half of the walls of the stock exchange collapsed, a fire department spokesman said Thursday afternoon. Hours earlier, the emergency services tried to save the walls after the catastrophic fire at the old stock exchange in Copenhagen by placing containers of concrete blocks attached to scaffolding around the building.
It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured in the crash. The building, built 400 years ago, is located on the eastern tip of the island of Slotsholmen on the Holmens Canal opposite the National Bank of Denmark and is a tourist attraction. A devastating fire broke out there on Tuesday. The fire was very bad in the part of the building that was scaffolding for restoration work and was closer to Parliament. Due to restoration work, the entire building was turned into scaffolding.
After the fire, only the exterior walls of the historic building remained intact. Before the emergency services could stabilize the walls from the inside, which would be necessary to save them, all rubble and other debris had to be removed from the floor of the building on Friday. (APA/AFP)
