the ripple effect of this research is particularly evident in cancer therapy.CAR T-cell therapy, initially explored as a potential HIV treatment, has been successfully adapted to train immune cells to target and destroy cancerous cells, dramatically improving outcomes for patients with blood cancers.
“A well-resourced deep dive into the understanding of just one infection turned out to be a great way to learn about human biology,” stated a professor at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. “This deep dive directly led to the progress of effective therapeutic strategies for lots of other diseases.”
