The beloved architect and television personality Hugh Wallace died unexpectedly at his home in December 2025, leaving a void in the world of design and television.
With the full support of his family, broadcasts of the new series of Home of the Year and The Great House Revival will proceed this year, honoring his legacy.
Wallace, the only judge to appear in every series of Home of the Year since its debut in 2015, was known for his warmth, humor, and genuine passion for architecture. What made Hugh Wallace such a popular figure on television? His ability to connect with viewers and celebrate the beauty of Irish homes, coupled with his insightful commentary, consistently captured the hearts of audiences.
Home of the Year, currently in its 12th series, was completed prior to Wallace’s death and will air on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player starting in early March.
RTÉ’s The Great House Revival will also air this Spring, serving as a tribute to Wallace’s remarkable dedication, vibrant spirit, and enduring love for design and architecture.

Wallace was 68 years old at the time of his passing and is survived by his husband, Martin Corbett, his family, friends, and colleagues.
In a statement shared on Wallace’s Instagram account, Corbett wrote: “It is with deep sadness and shock that I share the news that my beloved husband and soulmate, Hugh Wallace, passed away suddenly at home last night. I am heartbroken. Please respect my privacy at this deeply painful time. Martin.”
